    Problems with Verbs in English Grammar

    This is a list of problems you will find with verbs in English Grammar.

    Each of the rules has a very useful formula.

    1. Verbs That Require an Infinitive or –Ing Form in the Complement
    1.1. Verbs That Require Infinitive
    1.2. Verbs That Require Gerund (-Ing Form)
    1.3. Verbs That Use either (Infinite Or Gerund) And The Sentence Has The Same Meaning
    1.4. Verbs That Use either (Infinitive Or Gerund) And The Sentence Has A Different Meaning
    1.5. Verb Phases + Gerund (-Ing)
    1.6. Verb + Preposition + Gerund (-Ing)
    1.7. Adjectives + Infinitive

    2. Participles

    3. Necessity, Usually For Repair Or Improvement (need)

    4. Ability (know)

    5. Past Custom (used to)

    6. Logical Conclusions (must have, must be)

    7. Advisability (had better)

    8. Question Forms for Invitation and Customs (would)

    9. Preference (would rather)

    12. Desires (wish that)

    13. Contrary to Fact Statements (If were, wish that)

    14. Subjunctives (advise, desire, etc)

    17-19. Tag Questions

    20. Affirmative Agreement (and so we were)

    21. Negative Agreement (and neither am I)
